The Ray Mhlaba Skills Training Centre is an extension program of the Eastern Province Child and Youth Care Centre.

The Ray Mhlaba Skills Training Centre is an extension program of the Eastern Province Child and Youth Care Centre.

The Centre’s primary objective is to positively impact the lives of others via the empowerment of unemployed underprivileged youth aged 18-25 in vocational skills and social development programs equipping them with the knowledge and ability to obtain formal employment or become entrepreneurs.

The Centre offers a variety of SETA Accredited and Entrepreneurial Training Programs in:
  • Hospitality Studies (Professional Cookery, Food & Beverage, and Accommodation Services)
  • Bakery
  • Butchery
  • Woodwork
  • Beauty (Hairdressing, Nail Technician)
  • Early Childhood Development
  • Needlework & Crafts
  • Homebased Care and HIV/AIDS &
  • Palliative Care.

In addition to the vocational training programs the Centre provides a Personal Development Program, VUKUZENZELE (Empower Yourself) to all enrolled students.  The objective of this program is work place preparation, the centre operates to mirror that of a professional working environment, students follow a code of conduct to instil time management, communication, discipline and self-confidence.  Additional programs are implemented to increase students’ life skills, financial knowledge, personal health and social development.

The impact of this youth development initiative reaches further than the individual – their success positively contributes to their societies, improving the lives of their families and communities.
