Residential Care

Residential Care:

104 children are provided with daily residential care and nurturance by our 17 Child and Youth Care Workers. They are trained and equipped to provide the following to the children:

1. A WARM AND HOMELY ENVIRONMENT.
There are 8 cottages that the children reside in, each cottage having its own open plan kitchen, dining and living area. The children have their own beds and cupboards that ensures their privacy. Our staff teaches our children how to maintain a clean and hygienic living environment as well as how to manage their own future home.

2. BASIC PREVENTATIVE HEALTHCARE AND HYGIENE EDUCATION.
Many of our children come from disadvantaged backgrounds and need to be educated regarding basic hygiene and appropriate methods of preventative healthcare. Our child and youth care staff are supervised by a professional nurse to ensure that our children are cared for.

3. COMPASSIONATE DISCIPLINE AND LIFE SKILL TRAINING.
Children of any age will on occasion overstep the mark and misbehave. It is the parent’s responsibility to show the child how to correct their negative behavior and accept the consequences for such behavior. Our child and youth care workers work together with the therapeutic team in order to address any behavioral challenges on an individual level with the child concerned. The team also ensures that the children receive positive reinforcement of good behavior and accomplishments.

4. ROUTINES.
The children in the Centre are placed into a routine at the cottage from their first day. It is important for the children to understand the importance of time management and how routines ensure healthy development. The child and youth care workers manage the children’s day and ensure that the children have time to study, sleep, do their household duties and still have enough time to play!

5. MEDICAL SUPPORT.
Our professional nurse also has the huge task of ensuring our children’s medical needs are taken care of. Once a week a General Practitioner consults with the children in our clinic and provides any advice or medicines needed.
We also utilize the state and private health care sector to enlist the services of dentists, surgeons, specialist medical practitioners and community clinics.
